Internship

POSITION OVERVIEW

This posting is for the Square Root Intern position and is open to all high school age scholars currently participating in Square Root Academy programming. The goal of the internship is to provide a real-world work experience opportunity for exceptional youth who demonstrate leadership skills and a passion for STEM. New hires will participate in a week-long training bootcamp in order to develop necessary soft skills such as communication, goal setting, collaboration, and management. Following this, the intern team will work alongside a degreed Scholar Mentor to assist with weekly STEM activities for 5th through 8th grade youth. Responsibilities will include lesson preparation, materials management, experiment building, and youth mentoring for younger scholars.

Compensation: $400.00 stipend

Commitment: 5 Hours/Week (Partially remote, partially in facility)

OBJECTIVES

  • Provide real-world work experience and career skills for motivated SRA scholars

  • Provide STEM field employment and workforce development skills useful for future career

  • Show the direct connection between our programming and tangible career benefits and opportunity in the workforce 

  • Deliver a community-based youth mentoring experience for participating scholars

  • Motivate the next generation of potential educators and innovators

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assemble equipment for upcoming class sessions

  • Walkthrough educational lessons to ensure lesson and experiment are easily followed

  • Moderate online class sessions in order to ensure a seamless educational experience

  • Assist in admin support as instructed by supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a high school aged youth between the ages of 16 and 18 currently participating in SRA programming

  • Willing and able to attend all trainings and class sessions

  • Have a strong passion for STEM and some experience with related activities

  • Must be motivated and eager to learn and practice new skills

  • Possess strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Able to work with a team under the direction of a supervisor

  • Punctual and reliable
